According to the 2014 data published by URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance), an establishment within the Institute of Informatics at Middle East Technical University which deals with university rankings by academic performance, Izmir University of Economics ranked first in Turkey in the category of “Language, Communication and Culture”, a category that includes the following fields: Communication and Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Language Studies, Linguistics and Literary Studies.
According to the assessment based on four criteria, namely the number of articles, the number of citations, the total number of scientific documents and the total value of impact factor, which was made through such international open sources as ISI (Information Sciences Institute) and the data from such national institutions as YÖK and ÖSYM, Izmir University of Economics ranked first and the other top universities were identified as METU, Boğaziçi University, Bilkent University and Gazi University.
The qualified publications of all academic staff studying on Communication and Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Language Studies (Translation and Interpreting), Linguistics, and Literary Studies contributed to this success. Izmir University of Economics ranked first among all other universities in Turkey and ranked 431st among the top universities in the world.
Saying that their department is the only Department of Translation and Interpreting which carries out two Tübitak projects on interpreting and translation plagiarism in Turkey, Head of Department of English Translation and Interpreting, Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Oktar states: “Such an important success is a natural consequence of competent academic staff producing publications on not only the different fields of translation and interpreting but also cultural studies, language studies, linguistics and literature. We support the quest of qualified education with qualified researches.”
