Course Objectives The objective of the course is to examine journalistic discourse stylistically, focus on differences in language use and discourse, follow current print and audio-visual media and practice translating media texts, and build journalistic terminology.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • will be able to differentiate different text types in media such as news, articles, and advertisements.
  • will be able to compare text types in media structurely and semantically.
  • will be able to build up related terminology, phrases, and structures in order to effectively translate texts on media.
  • will be able to categorize texts on media according to their purposes and functions.
  • will be able to translate texts on media according to their purposes and functions.
Course Description The linguistic features of the various language use in print and audiovisual media will be examined. Different types of texts, their function and discourse will be compared. Appropriate strategies which could be used in translating such texts will be discussed.
