Course Objectives This course aims to introduce students to literature; to familiarize them with basic concepts of literature and a variety of genres in literature; to help them gain skills in reading closely and analyzing and discuss works of literature.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • will be able to clasify a variety of shorter genres in the literary tradition
  • will be able to explain the basic elements of literature, including plot, characterization, symbol, theme, irony, imagery and figurative language (among others)
  • will be able to critically discuss these elements in order to interpret works of literature
  • will be able to describe figures of speech used in the literary works
  • will be able to critically discuss the basic concepts of literature in the literary works they read.
Course Description Students learn to analyze the different forms of literature works. Students will read models of literary analysis in conjunction with the works themselves. Students will explore how history, culture and literature influence one another.
