Course Objectives Students will be able to understand the terminology of legal system either in source or in target language, and translate legal texts such as laws or written agreements.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • will be able to explain the general characteristics and nature of the legal language, and difficulties encountered in legal translation.
  • will be able to compare the basic features of different legal systems.
  • will be able to apply solutions to difficulties encountered in translation of legal texts.
  • will be able to ensure equivalence in translating legal texts.
  • will be able to translate legal texts of different types.
  • will be able to excel in style and terminology used in legal texts.
  • will be able to use resources for legal translation as a specialized translation.
Course Description This course introduces students to a specialized area of translational activity: legal translation. The course will include topics such as the nature and characteristics of legal language, sources of difficulty in legal translation and equivalence in translating legal texts.
