Course Objectives The aim of the course is to help students improve the technical capacity to produce subtitle translations for audiovisual resources such as movie, series and documentary, to discuss translation challenges different genres bring and translation strategies suitable for these genres, and to produce subtitle for the audio-visual texts in different genres.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • explain the types of audio-visual translation, its specific features and its status in translation studies;
  • describe the technical issues, basic rules and different steps of the subtitling process;
  • produce the authentic subtitle translation of different audio-visual genres;
  • produce subtitle translations of audiovisual texts of different genres according to the needs of the market;
  • edit audiovisual texts of different genres for quality control purposes.
Course Description The course involves analyzing subtitle translation for audiovisual resources in terms of technical and theoretical perspectives, examining the prevalent translation problems on examples and reinforcing the subjects dealt with several exercises.
