Success story of IUE English Translation and Interpreting graduate
Yonca Kandemir, who graduated from Department of English Translation and Interpreting, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) with high honors this year, qualified for graduate education in the field of applied linguistics in Germany with a full scholarship. Kandemir, who successfully qualified to receive the scholarship granted to only 30 people in Turkey by the Turkish Educational Foundation (TEV) and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), will study for two years at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nurnberg, one of the most innovative universities in Europe. Kandemir stated that she wanted to pursue her career as an academic and the graduate education she would receive in Germany was very important for her career. “I am very happy to have such an important opportunity,” said Kandemir.
Yonca Kandemir, graduate of IUE Department of English Translation and Interpreting, applied to the Central Office of TEV last April for scholarship. With a GPA of 3.00, went through an interview with the attendance of academics from 8 universities in Germany. Kandemir successfully passed the in-depth interview and became eligible for a full scholarship. Selected among hundreds of other candidates, Kandemir will go to Germany in September to pursue graduate education with thesis in applied linguistics area.
“It will help me reach my goals”
Kandemir believes that the graduate education she will receive in Germany will be very beneficial in terms of both knowledge and experience. “I am very happy and proud to be eligible for such a prestigious scholarship to pursue my graduate education in Germany. My major goal is to become an academic. I strongly believe this education opportunity in Germany will help me reach this goal. This scholarship is very important, and I will make the best of it. In addition to my personal endeavors in receiving this scholarship, my academics, who always steered me in the right direction, have a great role. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their help,” said Kandemir.
“More success stories coming”
Prof. Neslihan Yetkiner, Head of IUE Department of English Translation and Interpreting, called attention to the accomplishments of students graduated this year. Prof. Yetkiner said, “One of our students, Barış Sadıç, came in first place at the Young Translators Competition held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently and was awarded a scholarship to go to Europe. We felt very happy and honored once again with the success of our student Yonca being awarded with a scholarship to go Germany for graduate studies after a scrutinized assessment. Just as in the recent years, our students once again proved their uniqueness with their accomplishments. I have full confidence that we will be witnessing more of their successes.”
