Department of English Translation and Interpreting
IUE English Translation and Interpreting Students Discussing Translation Market Dynamics
English Translation and Interpreting Department, Faculty of Arts and Sciences held a seminar on translation market in May. In his speech titled “Dynamics of Translation Market”, Ozgun Ozke, a graduate of IUE English Translation and Interpreting Department and a member of Translation and Interpreting Association, provided useful information to the students willing to work as a freelance translator or to start a translation agency.
Addressing issues such as the aim, function and targets of Translation and Interpreting Association, Ozke pointed out the importance of establishing a professional chamber for translators and interpreters. Explaining the actions taken to reach this aim,Ozke emphasized that criteria about the professional competency must be set. Having founded a translation agency, Özke informed the students on the expectations of translation agencies from the freelancers, and underlined the advantages of setting up a company.
Organizing a seminar on translation every month, IUE Department of English Translation and Interpreting informs the students on the market conditions as well as different business lines in translation.
