Their postgraduate choices reflect the range of interests and career goals they developed during their undergraduate studies. They also highlight how the skills they gained at İzmir University of Economics can open doors to a wide range of fields.
The three graduates spoke about their experiences at İzmir University of Economics and how their undergraduate education helped shape their plans for the future.
Gözde Cenk
“My four years at İzmir University of Economics helped me figure out what I wanted to do with my career. My professors were a huge help in discovering my interest in research and academia.
I’ve wanted to live in the UK for as long as I can remember, so it was the first place I looked at when I started researching master’s programs. I applied to six universities and received scholarship offers from all of them.
I chose Newcastle University’s MA in Linguistics and English Language because of its strong academic reputation and the range of subjects covered by the program. I want to build on my knowledge of linguistics and bring it together with what I have learned about translation.
Studying in an international environment will give me the opportunity to grow both academically and professionally. I feel very confident about taking this next step thanks to the strong foundation I gained in the Department of English Translation and Interpreting at İzmir University of Economics.”
Yağmur Yaprak Çora
“Studying English Translation and Interpreting gave me the chance to explore different languages and cultures. Along the way, I developed much more than my language skills. I learned how to communicate effectively with different audiences, understand cultural differences, and adapt a message to the people it is intended for.
I believe these skills will be particularly useful in digital marketing. I’ve also become increasingly interested in the field as the digital world continues to evolve and the way we communicate keeps changing.
I want to bring my knowledge of language and culture into this dynamic field and open up new career opportunities for myself. That’s why I chose to study Digital Marketing at Newcastle University.
I hope the program will help me strengthen my communication skills and intercultural perspective while giving me the knowledge and experience I need to pursue an international career.”
Emre Canal
“During my time in the Department of English Translation and Interpreting at İzmir University of Economics, I realized that I was interested not only in bringing languages and cultures together, but also in helping people learn English effectively.
I started working in English language education during my second year at university, alongside my studies. The experience I gained in the field, together with what I learned throughout my degree, helped me turn my interest in teaching into a clear career goal. Over time, I began to see myself pursuing an international academic career in education.
Once I had decided to continue my studies abroad, I applied to five well-regarded universities in the UK. I was fortunate enough to receive offers from all five, along with a number of different opportunities.
In the end, I chose Newcastle University’s MA TESOL program. I’m excited to build on the strong linguistic and cultural foundation I gained at İzmir University of Economics and combine it with my experience in the field.
I’m looking forward to taking the next step toward my goal of becoming an educator and academic with an international career.”
